Behind the Scenes: Potato Planting at Eagle Eye Produce
At Eagle Eye Produce, potato planting starts long before the seed hits the soil—it begins with thoughtful planning, expert preparation, and a commitment to doing things the right way. From selecting premium seed to preparing the land with care, each step in our planting process helps set the stage for a strong, healthy crop. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how we approach potato planting from the ground up!
Selecting High-Quality Seed
Every great potato starts with great seed. We begin by selecting premium seed potatoes that meet our strict standards for quality and health. These seed potatoes are then cut into pieces. After cutting, the pieces undergo a process called suberization—a natural healing period that allows the cut surfaces to dry and form a protective layer. This barrier guards against disease and dehydration, preparing the seed for our potato planting process.
Potato Planting
Seed pieces are planted in evenly spaced rows using advanced row planters that improve accuracy and efficiency. These machines place each piece at a consistent depth and distance apart, which helps promote uniform growth. They also allow us to fertilize and treat the soil as we plant, helping set the stage for a healthy crop.

Irrigation and Care
To keep our crops well-watered and healthy, we use pivot irrigation systems—advanced sprinklers that rotate across the field to deliver even, efficient hydration. These systems can be monitored remotely, allowing us to respond quickly to changing weather conditions and the needs of our fields.

From planting to harvest, the potato season spans 90 to 120 days. Every step of our potato planting process is guided by expertise, innovation, and a deep respect for the land. It’s all part of how we grow high-quality potatoes you can count on—season after season! As the growing season unfolds, our team continues to monitor, nurture, and care for each field daily, knowing that a strong start leads to a strong, reliable finish at harvest.
